Finding the Manhattan Gym for You

Finding a Manhattan gym isn't hard. In a borough as large as Manhattan, you're going to have a lot of options. However, finding a gym and finding the best gym for you are two entirely different things. If you live in the Manhattan area, and you're looking for a gym, then you've come to the right place. Today we're talking about how to choose the right gym for you right here in Manhattan.

Choosing a Manhattan Gym

First, we want to point out that while this information is geared toward Manhattan residents, the information here can help you find a gym that suits your needs no matter where you live. Most of these tips relate to anyone looking for a gym anywhere. So even if you don't live in the Manhattan area, read on because we have some excellent advice for you.

Transportation

In a place as packed as Manhattan, a big factor in choosing your gym is going to be proximity to transportation, specifically buses or the subway. We all know that trying to drive anywhere is going to take longer than the workout, so if you can find a great gym that's close to public transportation, you'll come out ahead. Of course, you'll also want all the bells and whistles that you need in a gym, but proximity is a huge bonus.

Equipment

Equipment is a huge part of the gym experience. It's no fun - and often counterproductive - to try to get in a workout when the equipment is sub-par, at best. Look for a gym that has a variety of equipment from treadmills and other cardio equipment to free weights and machines that are all in good working order. They don't have to be brand new, but they should be operable, safe, and ready for use.

Staff

The staff is the lifeblood of any gym. They keep the entire place humming. They also set the tone of the gym. A gym could have the latest and greatest equipment and be feet from public transportation, but if the staff isn't friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful, none of it matters. When looking for a gym, be sure you drop by and get a feel for the staff. Stop at the front desk and chat up the person working there. Ask for a tour. Talk to any staff you can find. If they're friendly and helpful, that ticks a major box.

Trainers and Therapists

Closely related to checking out the staff is checking out the trainers and therapists of a potential gym if they have them. You never know when you might need some help with your training or to rehab an injury. If the gym has resident trainers and therapists, that's a huge bonus. Take the time to talk with any therapists or trainers that you come across to get a feel for them in the same way that you would the rest of the staff.

Facilities

Facilities are another large deciding factor when choosing the right Manhattan gym - or any gym, for that matter. Lockers, showers, and the like make things so much easier. Ask for a tour of these facilities. Are the lockers secure? Are the bathroom and shower facilities clean? How a gym takes care of its facilities says a lot about how it approaches its business, so don't neglect that area when looking for a gym.

Cost

Finally, take cost into consideration, but do so with all the gym has to offer in mind. In the end, you have to choose a gym that fits your budget, but you shouldn't have to sacrifice quality for that cost. Factor the cost into your decision, but be sure to weigh the quality of the gym when solving your fitness equation. It's a balance of finance and amenities, but it's one that will pay off in the end if you take the time to really do your homework.
